Washington, March 17, 2025 – Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has launched a new initiative to collect and share the experiences of disabled veterans and their spouses who have faced job losses or career setbacks due to downsizing efforts led by the White House and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The initiative aims to shed light on the real-life impact of these cuts across multiple federal agencies.
The Protect Veterans campaign seeks to inform lawmakers, policymakers, and federal executives about the challenges disabled veterans are facing as a result of DOGE’s workforce reductions. By sharing these personal accounts, DAV hopes to highlight how these policy decisions are affecting both the professional and personal lives of veterans and their families.
“It’s devastating to hear from veterans who are overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty about their future benefits, services, and health care,” said DAV National Commander Daniel Contreras. “But it’s even more painful to hear from those who became ill or injured while serving their country, only to later receive an impersonal termination email from the same government they dedicated their lives to. Our disabled veterans and their families deserve better.”
Veterans and their families can share their experiences, and read the stories of others, at dav.org/protectveterans.
